James M. Hodapp, 100, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday, November 18, 2024. Born in Mankato, MN on July 8, 1924, to Martin and Loretto (McGrath) Hodapp. He married Marie Antoinette Streck on August 26th of 1950 in Mankato, MN. They shared 60 years in a devoted marriage before her passing in 2011. James was a World War II Army/Air Force veteran and took great pride in serving our country. Afterwards, he attended Marquette University, graduating with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree in 1950. He worked for General Electric as an industrial sales engineer for 36 years until his retirement in 1987. Outside of work, James volunteered his time at Northern Illinois Hospice along with his wife, and was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. A man of many talents, including playing the Coronet in a band, a pianist and guitarist, gardener, and an avid golfer. He enjoyed family camping trips, sailing, and traveling.
Survived by his children, Michael (Maryellen) of Zionsville, IN, Patrick (Carol) of Byron, IL, Jonathan (Mary Sue) of Elko, MN; grandchildren, Tara (Tim) Tang of Carmel, IN, James Hodapp of Chicago, IL, Brian (Maria) Hodapp of Chicago, IL, David (Nina) Hodapp of Woodlands, TX, Paul (Courtney) Hodapp of Denver, CO, Anna (Richard) Evans of Naperville, IL, Elizabeth (Luke) Hedden of Sterling, VA, Peter (Lyndsey) Hodapp of Round Lake Beach, IL, Martha (Chris) Holloway of Milwaukee, WI, Trevor (Yana) Hodapp of Colorado Springs, CO; great-grandchildren, Annie, Josh, Lia, Norah, Reina, Alisa, Jordan, Cameron, Marie, Esther, Finley, Amy, Griffin, Calvin, Weylyn, Wren, Julia; brother, William Hodapp; special friend, Lillian Robinson, and many others friends at Sienna. He is predeceased by his parents and wife, Marie.
A visitation for James will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Final committal service will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery at 2:00.
