James H. Koehn, 77 of Rockford, died Sunday, December 7, 2008 in Rockford Memorial Hospital after a nine month battle with lymphoma. He was the son of Herman F. and Eula (Date) Koehn. He married Bessie Hagy on June 4, 1955 in Scales Mound, IL. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville in 1952 with a B.S. in Mathematics and from Northern Illinois University in 1957 with a Masters in Education. James taught math at Warren High School and Roosevelt Jr. High prior to 26 years at Guildford High School where he retired as the head of the Department of Mathematics in 1989. He then worked for Rockford Blacktop as an Estimator until his early 70s. James served as a Sergeant in the Army during the Korean conflict from 1952- 1954. James is survived by his wife Bess of 53 years, daughters Deborah Koehn (Brenda Borkenhagen) of Schaumburg, Kathryn of Rockford and Sandra (Mark) Green of St. Charles, two granddaughters Rosalie and Evelyn Green. Sister Verneal (late John) Korn of Rockford, brother Robert (Kay) Koehn of Racine and very supportive dear friend Connie Phillips. He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son David and infant brother Lee. Funeral service will be Thursday, December 11, 2008 in Court Street United Methodist Church, 215 N. Court St., Rockford, Il 61103, at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Keith A. Kelsey- Powell officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 4-7 p.m. in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. and from 10:00 a.m. Thursday until time of service in the church. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
