James Franklin “Frank” Banks, Jr., 71, Rockford, passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016, in his home. He was born September 23, 1944, in Pikeville, KY, the son of James Franklin and Marylou (Corbin) Banks, Sr. Frank was employed as a salesman at Martin Gustafson Furniture on 7th Street for many years and most recently worked for Home Depot for 10 years. Frank was a friend of Bill W. and very active at the Rockford Rescue Mission and was a member of Masonic Lodge #102 in Loves Park. He was a Reverend at United Science Mission and attended Heartland Community Church. Special thanks to UIC and Rockford Memorial Hospital Oncology for their kind and compassionate care.
Survived by his daughters, Amy Banks and Melissa Miller, both of Rockford; his sisters, Marilynn (Greg) Smeltzer of Gilbert, AZ, Claudette Pirrello of Rockford, and Candy (John) Payne of Franklin, TN; his brother, Michael Banks of Rockford; several nieces and nephews including Mark St. Clair and Melanie St. Clair; his special friends, Jon Juhlin and Ryan O’Keefe, his former wife and special friend, Carrole Banks; and his dog, August. Predeceased by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 4:30 P.M. on Sunday, August 14, 2016, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend Dr. Joe Marek officiating. Masonic services to follow. Burial at a later date in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until time of service on Sunday at the funeral home.
