James Fitzgerald Benjamin

James Fitgzerald Benjamin, 83, of Rockford passed away Thursday, February 22, 2018. Born December 8, 1934, the son of James and Mary (Fitzgerald) Benjamin. Graduated from East High School and attended Rock Valley College. He served in the Army National Guard. Jim was President of CIE & G Credit Union and retired from ComEd in 1994. Jim married Sharon Jacobs on December 2, 1976. He enjoyed driving vacations and was especially fond of cruising old cars and historical sites.
Survived by his spouse, Sharon; brothers, John (Connie) Benjamin and Tom (Candy) Benjamin; sisters, Carol (Tom) Sjedine and Jo Ann (Tim) Christensen; brother-in-law, Ed Mowry and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, step mother, Ellen Nelson Benjamin, sister, Sandy Benjamin and sister-in-law, Elaine Mowry. The Benjamin Family would like to express their thanks to OSF Hospice for making Jim’s final days peaceful.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.
