Jack Vernor Bergstrom

Jack V. Bergstrom, 84, of Rockford, passed away in his home, on Wednesday, December 3, 2014. Born September 23, 1930 in Rockford, son of Ragnar and Greta Bergstrom. He attended Rockford schools and served in the United States Army. He owned Jack Bergstrom Concrete Construction for 45 years, serving many area homebuilders, and new home owners with exceptional quality, and pride in his work. Jack’s passions were hunting and fishing. He spent many hours fishing the waters of Lake Kabetoqama, MN, with his nephew Kurt, and lifelong friend, Dave Davis, and longtime fishing buddy, Dave Smeltzer. There they caught many record sized walleyes over the years. Jack is survived by his sister, Emmy (Ron) Miller; nephews, Steve, Ronald, Kurt, and Kevin Bergstrom and Todd Miller; nieces, Sandra Dawson, Kelly Gustman, Kristi Landenberger and Kim Lape; numerous great nieces and great nephews. Jack is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert and Ralph Bergstrom. Memorial service will be at 6 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2014, 6 p.m., at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL, 61108, with Pastor Mike Mirakian officiating. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Friday, December 12, 2014, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army and to GiGi’s Playhouse, both of Rockford. Arrangements are being cared for by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel.
