Jack Termondt

Rockford- Jack Termondt, 82 of Rockford passed away in his home on Tuesday, October 30, 2007 after a short illness.nbsp; Jack was a devoted Husband, Father, Stepfather, Grandfather and Uncle. Jack spent 3 years on the USS Lyra while in the navy during World War II and often told stories of the time he spent serving our country. Jack was an active member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church from the time it was built. He was Parish Council President, one of the 1st Eucharistic Ministers, and a member of the choir, in addition to performing other functions throughout the church. Jack owned and operated maid-Rite on West State and Auburn St. for 40 years and often told of how he slept in the bun drawer as an infant at locations his father owned. Jack brought joy to a number of people throughout the Rockford area by serving free Christmas Dinner to the needy, this dinner not only served the needy, but people who had no where to spend Christmas Day. Jack retired in 1990, although the Maid-Rite name continues on at the Riverside and East State St. locations. Jack thrived on his family and loved spending time in his workshop building new creations. He so enjoyed showing his creations to his family and most often his creations ended up as gifts to loved ones. Jack was a great storyteller and you never knew if the story he was telling was real or fabricated. He truly knew how to enjoy life and will be greatly missed by his family.nbsp; Survivors include his wife Nell; son, Richard Mathew (Kris) Termondt; 3 stepchildren, Cliff Harty, Penny Handlin and Sheila (Rich) Lee; grandchildren, Alex, Laura, Riley, Brook, Danielle, Krystal, Nicholas and Nicole and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Charles and Elizabeth and sisters, Beverly, Bernie and Mildred. Prior to Jacks passing he stated his memorial request of Prayers for a better world. nbsp; Funeral mass will be on Friday, November 2, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2300 Bell Ave. Rockford with Rev. Daniel Peters officiating. Interment in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation on Friday in the St. Bernadette Parish Hall from 9-9:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to: St. Bernadette Catholic Church or VNA Hospice.
