Jack Lindstrom, 88 of Rockford, IL, finished the final chapter in his life, peacefully at home on Saturday, September 15, 2018.
Jack was born August 17, 1930 in Waterloo, IA, son of Earl and Emma (McCarty) Lindstrom. He married Ellen (Powell) Lindstrom on January 1, 1992 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He and his wife, Ellen supported the American Legion and VFW in Belvidere as well as the SM & SF Club in Rockford. Jack was also an active member of the #325 local teamsters. He was an Army veteran of 2 years with honorable discharge. Jack later served as a color guard for many veteran funerals. His life long career was more than 40 years of over the road and in town truck driving. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends, especially poker. While staying at Northwoods Nursing Home for rehab, he learned a new card game with his speech therapist called “Go Fish”, winning many games. A promise made and a promise kept between father and daughter. Jack will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Penny Lindstrom of Sterling, IL; son, Jack Lindstrom of Naples, FL; 3 step-children; loving granddaughter, Hailey who called Jack her “Dabba”; and several step-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents; wife, Ellen; brothers, Roy, Earl, Dwayne, and Jr.; sisters, Shirley and Marie. The family would like to thank Northern Illinois Hospice Care, especially nurse Sherri, CNA’s, volunteers that hospice provided, the VA Clinic and Dr. Thomas, Care Referral (owner Marie) for supplying all of Jack’s care takers, neighbor, Mark Sherwood of 30 years who called Jack his “green bean angel.” Thank you to Scott and Lena for their years of Sunday afternoon visits and friendship with Jack. Special thanks to the staff of Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, especially Ryan. Heartfelt thank you to Vlad who was Jack’s primary caregiver and buddy for 11 months. He honored Jack with dignity, independence, respect and compassion. A promise made and a promise kept between father and daughter. Love you, Dad.
Per Jack’s request, there will be no services held. Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made in Jack’s name to Circle of Change Veteran’s Dog Program, P.O. Box 4343, Rockford, IL 61110.
