John “Jack” L Lillie, 86, passed away at home on February 1, 2022. He was born to Luman and Alice (Garrett) Lillie on May 15, 1935.
Jack was a long-time member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He married the love of his life, Joyce Travis, on November 9, 1957 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rockford, IL. Jack was a hard-working man. He spent over 50 years at Marengo Foundry, starting as a Floor Foreman and retiring as Vice President of Sales. Outside of work, his passion was sports of all kinds. He spent countless hours on the golf course and was a huge Cubs, Bears and Bulls fan. He was very active with Roy Gayle Baseball as both a coach and a Board Member. Jack was very involved and influential in his children’s and grandchildren’s lives, sharing his work ethic and love of sports. Whether it was an invitation to lunch, coaching, or attending countless family events, he was an active supporter in all their activities. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jack is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce; children; Douglas (Linda) Lillie, MD, Dennis Lillie, Barbara (Steve) Rudie, Brenda (Marty) Lukasik, Beth (Yiannis) Lillie and David Lillie; grandchildren; Sam (Kristina), Sophie (Neil), Jennifer (Kevin), Amanda, Andrew, Kathryn (Dalton), Melyssa (Ken), Donovan, Becky, Michelle (Mark), Lauren, Zachary, Nathan, Elena, Antonis, Madelyn (Mike), Max and Anthony; and 7 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents.
Jack’s family extends a special thank you to the staff of Mercyhealth at Home Hospice for their care and compassion.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 4th, 2022 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church,1010 Ferguson Street, Rockford, IL 61102. Interment will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Masks will be required for any events attended. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be to Jack’s family for a donation to be made at in the future. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory.
