Jack Holst

Jack Holst, 84, Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, surrounded by his family. He was born in Aurora, IL on September 4, 1940, the son of Marvin and Mary Lou (Winn) Holst. He married Sharon (Wienecke) Holst on October 3, 1964, in Loves Park, IL they were married for 60 years.

For 32 years, Jack dedicated himself to a career as a truck driver with Consolidated Freight Ways. His commitment to his profession was evident in the way he navigated the open roads. In addition to his trucking career, Jack served his country proudly as a veteran of the United States Army, embodying the selfless spirit and dedication that defined his life.

Jack was known not just for his work ethic but for his warm and uplifting spirit, most vividly remembered by his infectious smile. He had a passion for music and loved to play guitar and sing, his favorite musician being Elvis Presley. Jack found joy in many hobbies, including rock hounding, traveling, especially to destinations out West, and tending to his flower garden. He loved gambling, often going to casinos with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon; his son, Robert (Karen) Holst; his daughter, Deborah (Chuck) Cuthbertson; his sisters, Betty (Duane) Horton and Hazel (Jack) Ward; his brother, Roy Schaberg; his 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert; his sisters, Clara, Carol Ann, and Charlotte. He was not only loved by his family, but all of his dogs, especially by his buddy, Trooper.

A Memorial service will take place on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S.
