Isabelle Joanne Hagney

Isabelle Joanne Hagney, 89, Rockford, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. She was born February 5, 1925, in Rockford, the daughter of Charles and Myrtle (Speake) Sirton. Isabelle graduated from Rockford West High School and the SwedishAmerican School of Nursing. She married George Hagney in 1950, and worked as a registered nurse at SwedishAmerican Hospital, Rockford Memorial Hospital, and the Rock River Valley Blood Center. A compassionate and caring professional, Isabelle continued her nursing career at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, working in the Office of Family Practice from its beginnings and serving patients for more than 30 years. A kind and gentle soul, Isabelle was an avid reader, shopper, animal lover and most of all, a devoted mother and grandmother. She was happiest when surrounded by her family and took great pride in watching them grow.
She is survived by her children, John (Pat) Hagney of Spokane, WA, Kathy Torrisi of Rockford, David (Anne) Hagney of Rockford, Marsha (Jan) Hagney of The Hague, Netherlands, and Peter Hagney of Chicago; her grandchildren, Alana (David), Marisa, Beth, Molly (Wes), Beatrice, and Claire; her great-grandsons, Eli and Jack; her sister, Elizabeth Peterson, sister-in-law Virginia (Angelo) Spoto and three nieces. Predeceased by her parents, former husband, son-in-law, and nephew.
Visitation will be held from 5 PM until 8 PM on Thursday, August 14, 2014, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd Rockford.
