Isabel Christine Meier, 91, of Rockford, passed away on Saturday June 9, 2007 at the home of her son Rick, surrounded by her family. Born June 26, 1915, the daughter of Ingval and Pearl Erickson. She lived most of her life in DeKalb before coming to Rockford 7 years ago. Isabel married Richard J. Meier II, in DeKalb on November 29, 1942. He predeceased her on February 22, 1973. Isabel was a bookkeeper and later an accountant at Northern Illinois University for over 20 years. Her special hobby was floral gardening. She was a 50 year member at First Lutheran Church in DeKalb where she was involved in many volunteer activities as well as civic organizations such as Meals on Wheels. For the past seven years she was a member at Alpine Lutheran Church, where she was involved in the Wednesday morning Womens Bible Study Group and the Sunshine Circle. Survivors include her sons Rev. Richard J. (Helen) Meier III of Rockford and Jeffrey (Wendy) Meier of Cape Carteret, NC; grandchildren Jennifer (Andrew) Geistfeld, Rebecca (Sunil) Meier-Rao, Richard (Ina) Meier IV, Carlos Meier, and Matthew and Thomas Rhines; great-grandchild Claire Geistfeld. Predeceased by her husband, parents, brother Ivan, and sisters Marion and Phyllis. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday June 14, 2007, at 11:00 AM at Alpine Lutheran Church, 5001 Forest View Ave. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm-8:00 pm, on Wednesday June 13, 2007, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and also from 10:00 am until time of service at the church. Burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Sycamore. Memorials may be made to Alpine Lutheran Church.
