Irene Gallagher

Rockford- Irene Gallagher, 91, a life long resident of Rockford,  died Thursday, March 19, 2009 at River Bluff Nursing Home. Born December 13, 1917, daughter of Sofus and Dagny (Evenson) Michelsen. Married her loving husband Edward Gallagher on October 15, 1938 in Rockford. Former owner and secretary of E.J. Gallagher and Sons Plumbing and Heating for 50 years. Life member of Rockford Harmony Singing Society, enjoyed bowling, cards, bingo and dancing. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the caring staff at River Bluff nursing home and to Northern Illinois Hospice for their care and support. Survivors include her children, Patrick (Marilyn), Dennis (Mary Jane) and Dagny (David) Johnson; 7 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edward in 1992, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.   Funeral Mass Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Cathedral, 1243 N. Church St. with Rev. Kenneth Wasilewski officiating. Visitation from 9:30 until mass time. Burial will be held in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials to: Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center or St. Peter Cathedral. Fitzgerald Funeral Home assisted the family.
