Ingeborg T. (Isenberg) Schwarz, age 90, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2024.
Inge was born in Wuppertal-Barmen, Germany, on October 27, 1933, the only child of Karl and Helene (Quarenheim) Isenberg. In August 1953, her uncle Walter and aunt Daisy Isenberg sponsored the family to immigrate to the United States. They resided in Stratford, Connecticut. Inge first worked at First National Bank of Connecticut in Bridgeport, before falling in love with her late husband, Horst T. Schwarz, also a German immigrant. They married in 1955 at Grace Lutheran Church in Stratford, Connecticut, where she remained a member until her death.
On December 29, 1956, their only child, Ronald, was born. The young family embraced a joyful, wonderful life. They built a home in Huntington, Connecticut, in which they and Inge’s parents lived, and in which they enjoyed wonderful gatherings with family members and friends. Inge loved entertaining, cooking, gardening, singing, dancing, and traveling. During the Christmas season, Inge and Horst enjoyed baking together, especially Christmas Stollen. Inge also began water painting and completed many paintings. After Horst died, Inge sold their lovely home and garden and moved to Rockford, Illinois, to be near her son and his family.
Inge cherished her time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great granddaughter. Inge will be deeply missed by her grandson, Caleb Slaga-Schwarz, of Rockford, her granddaughter, Hannah (Peter) Ruef, her great-granddaughter Arya Margaret Ruef, who was the light of her life, and her daughter-in-law, Sandy Slaga. She will also be greatly missed by her friends and family in Connecticut, and dear cousins and friends in Germany, Switzerland, and the United States. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Inge was predeceased by her beloved husband, Horst, in 2018, and her only child, Ron, on June 3, 2024, from Alzheimer’s disease.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff, CNAs, and nurses at Independence Village, as well as Unity Hospice and Assisting Hands, for their wonderful care of Inge.
A private family service will be held at a later date. The family requests memorials be made to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org.
