Hilda Behn

Hilda G. Behn, 100, died peacefully on Sunday, February 11, 2024 in Fairhaven Christian Retirement Home. Born June 14, 1923 in Tomahawk, WI, daughter of George Curtis and Ester Samuelson Curtis. Graduate of Merrill, WI High School and Illinois Masonic Hospital School of Nursing. Employed as a surgical Registered Nurse in various locations throughout her career. Married Robert C. Behn in Merrill, WI on November 24, 1945. She had been a resident at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center for several years.

Survivors include her daughter, Mary (Michael) Dixon, Straughn, IN and son, Greg (Cheryl) Behn, Schertz, TX, along with five grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, a daughter (Katherine Ann) and a grandson. Hilda and her husband ‘adopted’ their neighboring Rockford family, Gary and Sheila Carlson, as very close friends. Sheila preceded Hilda in death, but Gary, their children and grandchildren still live in Rockford.

A visitation and Celebration of Life will be held at Fairhaven Christian Retirement Center chapel on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with Chaplain Steve Rachke officiating. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service. Private family burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fairhaven Christian Retirement Home, 3470 N. Alpine Rd., Rockford, IL 61114.
