LOVING DAD, GRANDPA AND GREAT GRANDPA
Herbert Ray “Herb” McKiski, 87, Rockford, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 16, 2016, while vacationing at Nokay Lake in Brainerd, MN. He was born March 5, 1929, in Belvidere, the son of Raymond W. and Evelyn R. (Spengler) McKiski. Herb was an Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He married Ruth Smith in 1950. Herb owned and operated a gas station in North Park and was a volunteer fireman there. He later became a realtor and developed many subdivisions in the Rockford area. Herb was an avid fisherman and enjoyed his many years fishing at Nokay Lake in Brainerd, MN and Lake of the Woods in Morson, Ontario, Canada.
Survived by the wonderful mother of his children, Ruth; his sons, Tom McKiski of Machesney Park and Hal (Sue) McKiski of Cherry Valley, his daughters, Nancy (Rod) Stevens of Winnebago, Brenda (Jim) Rumage of Rockton, and Linda (Mark) Hughes of Cherry Valley; his grandchildren, Michael and Lauren McKiski, Emily (Jason) Gensler, Jessica (Aaron) Full, Missy (Nick) Ramsey, Jeremy (Tracy) Stevens, Jamie (Doug) Rumage, Monica (Nino) Girardin, Kayla (Marcus) Sojka, Andrew Hughes, Matt (Ann) Hughes; his 12 great- grandchildren and 2 more on the way; his sister, Dorothy Swenson; his niece, Sharon (Ron) Neuschwander and his caregiver and friend, Donna. Predeceased by his parents and grandsons, Michael Rumage and Adam McKiski.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend Gerald Peterson officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, August 22, 2016, at the funeral home and from 10:00 A.M. until time of service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to establish a fund for his grandson and great granddaughter, Michael and Mackenzie, both with special needs.
