Henry “Jay” Lowe, 89, of Rockford, Illinois, passed away, April 17, 2018. Born May 3, 1928 in Hardy, Arkansas; he was the son of Shelton and Bessie (Estes) Lowe. Jay married Beatrice Rice on June 13, 1948 and they were blessed with 69 years together.
He worked as a railroad worker, carpenter, furniture builder, and retired from Mechanics Universal Joint in Rockford after 38 years of employment. He attended First Assembly of God Church for 68 years, serving as a Sunday School teacher, Board Member, Boy Scout leader, Sunday School Superintendent and usher.
Jay was a Godly man who cared deeply about his family and his faith. His grandchildren were very special to his life, and they adored him. Henry enjoyed gardening, gospel music, playing his guitar, and traveling with his wife in their campers. He built the house that he raised his family in with his own hands. He was loved and he will be missed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Beatrice Lowe; his sons, Phillip (Dawn) Lowe and Richard (LaVonne) Lowe; daughter Karen (David) Rumer; his siblings, Louise Mobley, Barbara Huskey, Virginia Gunsolus, James Lowe, and Kathy Mann; grandchildren, Jason (Lindsey) Lowe, Brian Lowe, Rachel Lowe, Adam (Elizabeth) Lowe, David (Aileeah) Rumer, and Alex Jay Rumer, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great, great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Shelby; brother; Herschel and sister, Ruth Robinett.
Funeral services 2 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, 1860 South Mulford Road, Rockford, with visitation at 12:30 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Online condolences may be submitted at fitzgeraldfh.com
