Helena Majka Sieradzki, 101, passed away in Belvidere, Illinois on May 12, 2023. Born March 25, 1922, in Czarna, Poland, third of ten children to Roman and Maria (Swider) Majka, she was sent to Lwow, Poland (now Ukraine) in 1939 to attend high school. Just as classes began, the Nazis invaded Poland from the west and the Russians from the east. Ultimately, she survived capture and internment by the Nazis. Taken to Germany where she survived WWII as a forced laborer, she married and had two children in Germany following this difficult time in her life. In 1951, the family immigrated to the United States where she made a new life having two more children. She eventually became a proud naturalized citizen and moved to the Rockford area 20 years ago.
She is survived by her children Christopher (Barbara) Sieradzki, Richard Sieradzki, and Jerry (Dr. Therese Lucietto-Sieradzki) Sieradzki as well as daughter-in-law Jane Sieradzki; her grandchildren Jennifer, Julie, Alex, Christopher, Jeffrey, Scott, Lauren, Katherine, Guinevere and several great-grand children. She is predeceased by her son Robert “Bob” Sieradzki and daughter-in-law, Cheryl (nee Brown) Sieradzki, as well as all of her siblings.
