Helen S. Schuller

Helen Sara Schuller, 92, of Rockford, passed away Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at home.
Born January 1, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois; the daughter of Sara Markel (Drechsler) and John Markel. She married Joseph M. Schuller in Chicago, Illinois, on June 14, 1947 (married 69 years). Helen was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She loved hosting family functions and always made sure the birthday person had his/her “favorite meal and dessert.”

She worked as a key-punch operator and later in accounts payable/receivable for Western Electric, Ameritech, and AT & T before retiring in 1990. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Schaumburg and later of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, Rockford, where she volunteered as a greeter and at Vacation Bible School.

She and Joe moved from Chicago and settled in Hoffman Estates in 1960. While her children were young, her company allowed her to take summers off to be with them and welcomed her back every fall. In 1993, they moved to Rockford and enjoyed making new friends, taking trips, and supporting their children and grandchildren’s interests and activities.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph Milton Schuller; her children, John Joseph Schuller and JoEllen Vause; grandchildren, Jennifer Vause, Joel Vause (Barrie), and twins Davis and Jonathan Schuller; great-grandchildren, Lucas and Cameron Vause; and sister-in-law, Freda Krueger. Preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, Joseph and son-in-law, Jay Vause.

Funeral service, Tuesday, April 18, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church, 2001 N. Alpine Rd, with Pastor Kenneth Krause officiating. Visitation prior to service from 9:30- 11:00 a.m. at the church. Internment following service at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights, Illinois. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Mt.
