Helen G. Seger, 80, of Rockford, died at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in the comfort of her home. Born April 9, 1932 in Chicago, daughter of Daniel and Marie Angland Gleason. Graduated from Sienna High School in Chicago and received a B.S. in Economics from Mundelein College. Married P. Joseph Seger II on August 28, 1954 in Chicago. He died August 31, 2008. She was employed by Equifax for many years, retiring in 1988. Helen was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she was involved with the Peace and Justice Committee. She served on the board of directors for St. Elizabeth Center and had been active as a lector and greeter at Fisher Chapel. She had previously been a Girl Scout Leader, was a member of Womanspace and was a volunteer in the Rockford School System Literacy Program. She had been very active in the Loves Park Rotary Club where she was honored this past year as a Paul Harris Fellow. Helen loved being a spouse, mother and grandmother. Her love of life and being with and interacting with people gave her much joy. She loved learning and learned much about different cultures on her world travels. She was always very charitable and concerned for the plight of the underprivileged, accepting people for who they were and not judging, Helen cherished her family and loved spending time with her family and friends.Survivors include her children, Mark (Julie) Seger, and their children, Natalie (Mark Peterson), Megan and Rachel; Beth (Lyle) Williams and their children, Sarah and Hannah; Marion (Bob) Guirl and their children, Ellen and Michael; Dan (Lisa) Seger and their children, Kimberly and Jack; Patrick (Kathy) Seger and their children, Kennedy, Sean, Emily, Olivia and Dylan; cousin, Joy Gleason as well as many other cousins. Predeceased by her husband, Joe, On August 31, 2008,daughter, Marie Louise Seger; son, P. Joseph "Joe" Seger III, sister, Marion Gleason and cousin, Patricia Gleason.Mass of Celebration at 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2012 in Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Edward Seisser officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 46 p.m. on Sunday, August 19 th in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with a Christian Wake Service at 5:30 p.m. Visitation also from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at the church on Monday.
