Helen Anna Brockman, 97, Rockford, formerly of Genoa, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 4, 2012 in Rosewood Care Center, surrounded by her loving family.nbsp; Born November 15, 1914 in DeKalb, daughter of Theodore and Anna (Pearson) Malen.nbsp; Graduated from DeKalb High School in 1932 and Northern Illinois Teachers College (now Northern Illinois University) in 1935.nbsp; She married Edward Brockman in DeKalb on February 11, 1940.nbsp; Helen began her teaching career in a oneroom school in Fairdale in 1936 and then worked with her husband in the family business at Eds Grocery in Genoa.nbsp; She returned to teachingnbsp; 3 rd grade in the Genoa Schools where she taught for many years until her retirement. Member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Genoa.nbsp; She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and nobody could bake chocolate chip cookies quite as well as Helen.nbsp; She was a good grandma who loved taking care of her family. Helens family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Rosewood Care Center and Northern Illinois Hospice amp; Grief Center for the tender, loving care given to her.
Survivors include her daughter, Lois (Fred) Muehlfelder, Rockford; grandchildren, Corey Tutwiler, New York City, Rachel (Matt) Thomann, Rockford, Gene Barrick, Tempe, AZ, Heather (Tom) Whelan, Hartland, WI, Amber Niedermeier (Jeff Persfull), Rockford and Fred (Kristin) Muehlfelder, Rockford; greatgrandchildren, Sophie Thomann, Ryan Thomann, Matthew Thomann, Maiya, Kaiyli and Kaiden Whelan, Kinsley Niedermeier and Abby and Natalie Muehlfelder;nbsp; nieces, Mildred Susie (David) Frank, Minnesota, Diane Baker, Belvidere, Ann Malen, Ft. Collins, CO, Jude (Mike) Schneider, Tucson, AZ and Becky (Dan) Frost, Harvard; many great nieces and nephews and special friend, Nerieda Muehlfelder.nbsp; Predeceased by her husband, Ed, in June of 1988; son, John; brother, Evar (Marge) Malen and her parents.
Visitation from 57 p.m. Thursday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S.
