Hazel “Hazie” Sadewater née Kochel was born April 7, 1940, in Rockford, Illinois. Birth daughter of Jessie "Larry" and Hazel Kochel. She was the youngest of three sisters.
Hazie and her 2 sisters were raised by their maternal aunt and uncle, Myrtle and Harry Shaw. All three sisters were confirmed at Bethesda Covenant Church and graduated from East High School. She was a member of the Glee Club. After high school, Hazie attended Parsons college in Fairfield, Iowa where she met her first husband William Schlosser of Prairie City, Iowa. Her first marriage ended after 16 years. She married Don Sadewater in 1980 and they were together for 43 years. Hazie had a zest for life and loved her family and friends immensely. Anybody she met became her friend. She was a devout Christian woman who loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ with all her might. Her life was full of lots of hobbies. Arts and Crafts, and travel, and she enjoyed going to her son’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. She lived for her family and loved being with them especially for the holidays, Christmas being her absolute favorite. She got such a bang out of buying gifts for people and seeing them open them. She loved making people happy. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandma. Hazie was an example of a life well lived in service to others.
She was called home to heaven, on July 4th, 2023. She is preceded in death by her birth parents Hazel and Jessie “Jerry” Kochel. Her parents, Myrtle and Harry Shaw, and her older sister, Barbara Shank. She is survived by her husband, Donald Sadewater, her son’s Todd Schlosser and Dan Sadewater, two wonderful daughter’s-in-law, Michelle Schlosser and Jessica Sadewater, 5 grandchildren; Kayla Thyssen née Schlosser, William Schlosser, Taylor Sadewater, Chloe Sadewater, and Callie Sadewater, her sister, Marie Erickson nee Kochel, brother-in-law, Jim, their two children Jeffrey and Jennifer, nephew William Shank and lots of wonderful friends. Anybody that knew Hazie would say she was quite spunky but full of love for everyone. Heaven has gained a new angel. She was always calling the Angels to protect all those she loved. Now she is the one protecting all of us.
