Hazel E. Wonder, 103, Rockford died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Fair Oaks Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in South Beloit. Born the 4th of 11 children to Jacob and Sarah "Sadie" Ealbert Meyers on April 29, 1910 in Chillicothe, IL. Married Frank Wonder, whom she met at a county fair in Iowa, on June 17, 1928 in Waukegan. Hazel worked for over 23 years for Barber-Colman. In later years, she worked at Roma Bakery and Logli until her retirement at age 80. Always keenly aware on current events, Hazel maintained a strong interest in local, state and national politics through reading, watching TV, and lively family discussions. Hazel also served her local community as an election judge. She was a former member of Messiah Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Doris (Ed) Froning; grandchildren, Judy (David) Toney, Dan (Joyce) Wonder, Penny Owens, Kelly (Chris) Kearney and Rod (Clarice) Drummond; 5 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren; sister, Darlene Heidelman; daughter-in-law, Thelma Wonder and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband on January 8, 1982 and her son, Frank on August 3, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with Rev. Douglas Bowden officiating.
