Hazel Cusick Mosher, 86 ROCKFORDHazel Mosher died Wednesday, July 15, 2008 at The Atrium. She was born October 28, 1921 on a farm near Allendale, IL. She was the daughter of Clyde & Estle Cusick. She moved to Gibson City as a child, and was valedictorian of her High School graduating class. She received a BS degree from the University of Illinois in the Smith Hughes program. She met her husband in 1940. They were married in 1944 while he was serving in the army. During WWII, they lived in Florida, California, New Mexico and Texas. While her husband was in law school, she worked as a telephone operator at the University of Chicago. After graduation they moved to Freeport, IL. Although she was a housewife most of her life, due to severe heart problems, she was active in the Freeport community. She served 2 terms as the President of the Freeport League of Women Voters and was a 50 year member. She was on the board of directors for Kings Daughters Childrens Home, and was appointed to Freeports first Human Relations Council during the 1960s. She hosted an AFS student from the Philippines for a year, as well as served as host family for the US State Department for foreign visitors from various countries. After her husband retired, they moved to Rockford and joined Charles Street Presbyterian Church where she was very active. She was a member of Spring Creek United Church of Christ at the time of her death. She is survived by her spouse of 64 years, James Mosher; daughters, Marsha (Larry) Ackerman of Rockford, Sharon Mosher ( husband, Mark Helper) of Austin, TX; twin sister, Helen (Fred) Hicks; grandchildren Mark (Carol) Ackerman, Amy (David) Wisniewski, Jennifer (Tony) Maltry, Sarah Helper and Lisa Helper; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Allison, Paige, Alexandra and Sarah; step-great-grandchildren, Brandee and Alexandra; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by 2 brothers and a sister. The family wants to thank the staff at the Atrium and Transitions Hospice for their caring support. Memorial Service will be held at 6:00pm Friday, July 18th at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108 with Rev. Dr. Michael Simmons officiating. Burial will be private in Wyanet, IL. Visitation will be held from 4-6pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Association, 4777 E.
