Harry Lynn Mcwherter

Harry Lynn McWherter, 89, Byron, was born into eternal life on August 8, 2023. He was born June 9, 1934, in Palmersville, TN, the son of Basil and Mary Ann (Harris) McWherter. Harry spent his growing years in Chicago where he graduated from Lane Tech High School in 1952. He then attended Carthage College in Carthage, IL graduating in 1957, with a Bachelor of Science degree. Harry participated in both the football and boxing programs and was named a 1955 Associated Press Little All American and NAIA All-American in football as well as being awarded Golden Gloves in boxing. This earned Harry recognition and entry into the Carthage College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2005.

Harry married Darelyn Lee Baldwin in 1956, journeying through life, loving, working, raising their four children serving and attending their church. Employment includes 20 years at Union Camp Corporation; 20 years in the structural steel industry as a sub-contractor; created and built his own business, HLM Construction Corporation; and retired in 1999. In retirement, Harry spent time as a gentleman farmer and was active in his community and his church, Valley Evangelical Covenant Church.

Beloved, faithful, Husband, deeply loved Father, exemplary Grandfather and Great Grandfather, loyal friend – always loving, laughing, tending and protecting. Redeemed Harry Lynn McWherter… you will be missed in huge measure by those who loved you most, his wife of 66 years, Darelyn; his children Laura (Ken) Carlson, Mindy McWherter, Jerry (Fran) McWherter, Bryan (Missy) McWherter; his grandchildren Sarah, Eric, Patrick and Kevin (Claire) Carlson; Whitney and Will Dutton; Benjamin McWherter; Jack and Lauren McWherter; his great grandchildren Kendall Carlson and Collins Carlson; affectionate extended family and loyal friends. He is predeceased by his parents Basil and Mary McWherter and his brother Jim and sister Neta.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Valley Evangelical Covenant Church, 103 S. Maple Street, Stillman Valley, IL 61084. Fitzgerald Funeral Home assisted the family. Share online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
