Harriet Pofelski Bennis

Harriet Pofelski Bennis, 93, Rockford, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017, in her home. She was born in Chicago on January 15, 1924, the daughter of Andrew and Theresa (Sikorski) Nowak. She married Robert Pofelski in Chicago in 1943, and they spent many wonderful years together before he passed away in 1988. Harriet was an avid bowler and enjoyed spending her free time bowling with her friends. She met and married her late husband, George Bennis, through the bowling community. They were married January of 1993. Harriet will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.
She is survived by her son, John (Sonia) Pofelski of Rockford; her grandsons, Brandon (Melonie) Pofelski and Cole (Amanda) Pofelski; her great grandchildren, Jacob, Gavin, Kooper, Anneka, and Mya Pofelski; her sister in-law, Delores Nowak; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Special thanks to her friend and neighbor, Cindy Soter.
Harriet is predeceased by her parents; her first husband, Robert Pofelski in 1988, her son, Mark Pofelski in 1986; her second husband, George Bennis in 2005; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert (Helen) Nowak, Eugene (Julie) Nowak, and her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn (Ray) Loessl.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2017, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2400 Bell Ave., Rockford. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at the church. Arrangements by Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford.
