Gwendolyn S. Whitesel Cory

Gwendolyn Sue Whitesel Cory, 52, Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at SwedishAmerican Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born in Hutchinson, KS, the daughter of Terry and Beverly (Flock) Whitesel on November 8, 1969. She lived in Rockford from January 1973 on. She married her husband, Mathew Cory on October 2, 1999. She grew up at Our Savior's Lutheran Church where she was confirmed. Gwen graduated from East High School in 1987 and from Rockford Business College as a Paralegal in 2000. She worked at Butera Law Offices for 9 years and as a waitress at John’s Pizza for many years. She loved being with family and friends for all kinds of activities and adventures such as family events, karaoke nights, watching the Bears, tubing the Kish, playing softball, etc. She loved her cats and her dog, Boomer. She most enjoyed relationships with her brother, Mathew; her family; and friends. Those left to honor Gwen’s memory include father, Terry; stepmother, Mary; brother, Mathew; stepbrother, Larry; aunts, Cleo, Melanie, Trish, Nancy; uncles, Alan, Darrel, Mike (Uncle Buck), Jim and many cousins. Special longtime friends, Stasi, Michelle, Dana, Dawn, Cathy, Tracy, Heather, Stephanie and Dennis.
Predeceased by her husband, Matthew; stepbrother, Casey; and grandparents, Louis, Mildred, Martha.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday July 9, 2022, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St. Burial in Arlington Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to the Special Gifts Committee at the church in her name.
