Guadalupe Valdez

January 24, 1937 — January 15, 2021

Guadalupe Valdez, 83 of Rockford, IL passed away on Friday, January 15, 2021 of Covid 19 complications.

Guadalupe was born January 24, 1937 in Rio Bravo, Coahuila, Mexico, the son of Ernesto and Clementina Valdes.

Guadalupe came to the United States in the mid 1950’s and worked as a migrant farmer in various states including Wisconsin, Washington and Idaho. He would return to Mexico after every season, to see the love of his life, Alicia. Guadalupe married Alicia de la Rosa on May 27, 1962 and they moved to Rockford, IL. Guadalupe worked at several Rockford industries including Twin Disc and Kohls. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was very involved in church activities. Guadalupe had a great sense of humor and always had a new story to tell or rehash. He enjoyed keeping up with what was going on in Rio Bravo, his birthplace and reconnecting with relatives and old friends through Facebook.

Guadalupe is survived by his son, Ernesto (Scott) Valdes; sisters, Jaime (Concepcion) Guerrero, Armando (Juanita) Anchondo, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, Alicia, and daughter, Maria Alicia and most recently, by his “best brother-in-law” Jaime Guerrero.

A memorial service will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in his wife’s name.
