Green Lewis, Jr.

Green Lewis, Jr., 76, of Rockford, IL passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021. He was born September 7, 1944 in Ages, KY the son of Green and Veda (Crider) Lewis. Green moved to Rockford when he was 16 and started working at Atwood Vacuum Machine Company where he would work as a heat treater for 43 years. He married the love of his life, June after meeting at Beaky’s in stall 14 on June 27, 1964. Green was a family man who loved spending time with his grandkids. Green was an avid football fan, cheering on the Chicago Bears. He never missed going to his great grandson, Malik’s football games. Green assisted June with her daycare and enjoyed all the children, especially his great grandson DJ. He loved going to Taco Tuesday at Booties, listening to his grandson, Brad karaoke at Hot Rod Nellie’s and dinner dates with his granddaughter Brandi. Green also enjoyed gardening and playing cards.
Green is survived by his children, Mike (Martha) Lewis and Mickey (Ron) Hutting; grandchildren, Donald (Kerri) Lightfoot, Lee (LayCee) Lightfoot, Christy (Charlie) Petrie, Brad (Emily) Grunder and Brandi Grunder; 7 great grandchildren; brother, Curt (Diane) Lewis, Brenda Rapier, Daisy Reese; in-laws, Terri Lewis, Larry (Myrt) Utley, Laura Orr, Diana Sikes, Billy (Pat) Wilson; many nieces nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his beloved wife, June; Brothers, Harvey (barb) Lewis and David Lewis; brothers-in-law, Billy Rapier, Sam Reese, JC Orr, Charles Sikes, Gary Wilson and Floyd Dean Wilson. The family would like to thank neighbors Bill and Ed for their help and compassion.
A walk through visitation will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Private service and burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Masks and social distancing are required. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family for a cause to be determined.
