Gordon W. Hawn, Jr., 85, a lifetime resident of Rockford, passed away on May 22, 2008 at Rockford Memorial Hospital. Gordon was born March 5, 1923 in Rockford the son of Gordon W. Hawn, Sr. and Edna M. (Stephenson) Hawn. He married Florence on September 5, 1942 in Bowling Green, Missouri. Gordon was a US Army veteran of World War II having served with the 106th infantry. He worked as an I.D./O.D. grinder for Sundstrand Corporation for 32 years until retiring in 1982. Gordon was a member of the Rockford Moose Lodge and the SM amp; SF Club. Gordon is survived by his wife Florence; his children, Carol S. (Curt) Spangler, Donna L. Saunders and Peggy L. (Richard) Dach; his grandchildren, Deb, Jon, Bonnie, Michael, Tiffany, David, Amy, John, Kim, Jackie and Stephanie; his brother, Loren R. Hawn; his sister LaVonne (Merlin) Hall; 17 great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Gordon was predeceased by his parents and his grandson Steven Saunders. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at 7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Memorial visitation will be on Tuesday from 6 p.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
