Gordon Allen Smith

 Gordon Allen Smith, age 93, passed away on Monday, December 16, 2024. 

Gordon was born in Chicago, IL on September 28, 1931, the son of Henry and Helen (Goranson) Smith. He graduated from Lane Tech High School and immediately enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Navy. Gordon married Margaret E. (Grady) Smith on October 30, 1954, in Franklin Park, IL. He worked for AT&T for 30+ years before retiring. Gordon was a longtime member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and golfing while he lived on Apple Canyon Lake. Most of all, Gordon enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. 

Surviving relatives include his daughter, Janet (David) Becker and his son, David (Dee) Smith. Granddaughters, Hannah (Caleb) Greathouse and Christy Smith; granddaughter-in-law, Lou LaMartina; great-grandson, Ethan, as well as another great-grandchild expected in January. Gordon is predeceased by his parents; his wife, Margaret and his grandson, Michael. Cremation rites will be accorded. 

A memorial service at Aldersgate United Methodist Church will be announced at a later date. Gordon will be buried next to his wife in the Schapville Zion Presbyterian Cemetery in Schapville, IL. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Gordon’s name to the Swedish American Health Foundation.
