Gordon B., “Gordy” Grubb passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 21, at the age of 80. Gordy was born September 26, 1935, in Belvidere, Illinois, the third child of Clarence and Margaret (née Silvius) Grubb. Cherished husband of Linda (née Hinze) Daly Grubb, married January 1, 1977. Dearly loved father of Diana Grubb, Rockford IL; Denise Nesmith (Daniel, “Tanner”) Morris Chapel, TN; Mike Daly (Kathy), Geneseo, IL; Ann Witte (Matt), Oconomowoc, WI, Joe Grubb (Sally Richter), Machesney Park, IL; Tim Daly, Naperville IL; and David Grubb (Lizandra), Fort Collins CO. Loving brother of Charlene Luce, James (Betty) Grubb, Nancy Brabeau, Judith Cornwell, and Gerald (Adrian) Grubb. Proud Grandpa of sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren, and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Gordy was predeceased by his first wife, Hazel (née Behnke), brothers Clare and John Grubb, and sister-in-law, Joyce Grubb.
Gordy attended Belvidere High School, and his career included work for Professional Marketers Inc., Nabisco Brands, Inc., and Snack Cakes, Inc. He has worked part time at Fitzgerald Funeral Home since 2002.
A man of honor, integrity, and deep faith, Gordy lived a life of joyful service to his family, his church, and his community. Sensitive to others’ needs and concerns, he had a warm smile, a good word, or a joke for everyone he met.
A 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus Muldoon Council 470 and a 4th degree member of the General Assembly 190 and Honorary Lifetime Member of the Knights of Columbus, Gordy was active in the Knights’ Clowns for Charity, and an active member of St. Rita’s Catholic Church, and previously at St. Patrick’s Parish, Rockford. He completed Lay Ministry Formation Training for work with the sick, elderly and homebound, a ministry he and Linda performed for many years. He was also a Eucharistic Minister and a retreat team member, and led Vespers services at the Terrace Senior Home. Gordy was an active participant in St. Joseph and Sons, working on projects within the within the diocese of Rockford.
Funeral Mass Monday, July 25, 2016 at St. Rita Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 24 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Rd. 1860 S. Mulford Rd. from 6-8 p.m. with a Christian Wake Service at 8:15 p.m. Visitation continues on Monday at church from 9 – 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Poor Clare Colettine nuns of Rockford or St. Joseph and Sons .
