Glenna E. Cross, born March 4, 1918, to Annie and Charles Comly in Seward, Illinois. She graduated from Pecatonica High School and attended Blackburn College and University of Wisconsin. She then taught schools in Winnebago County and Beloit, Wisconsin. Married June 29, 1949 in Rockford, Illinois to Richard R. Cross and lived in Woodstock from 1949 until 2009 when they moved to Rockford. She was preceded in death by Richard R. Cross, her husband of 62 years. She was a member and Elder of the First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, a member of the Order of Eastern Star and Past Matron, a member of Friends of the Woodstock Library and helped organize the Friends of the Opera House. She was also a member of Colonial Dames XVII Century, Guilford Chapter; Daughter of the Revolutionary War, Kishwaukee Trails Chapter; Daughter of Founders and Patriots, Illinois Chapter: Welcome Society of Pennsylvania; Retired Teachers of McHenry County; Charter Member of the McHenry County Historical Society and served as a member of the Opera House Restoration Committee. She is survived by two daughters, Ellen (Lawrence) Katz of Denver, CO and Martha Cross of Denver, CO and two grandchildren, Daniel (Bridget) Katz of Denver, CO and Stephanie (Michael) Polmear of Bethesda, MD. Predeceased by her mother, Annie Comly, and her father, Charles Comly and a sister Phyllis Beuth.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Third Presbyterian, 1221 Custer Avenue. Visitation on Saturday, at the church will be from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. Burial in Willwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be given to Third Presbyterian Church of Rockford, Masonic Learning Center in Freeport or Friends of the Woodstock Opera House.
