Glenn "Darrell" Shackelford, 79

Glenn Darrell Shackelford, 79, died peacefully at home on August 26, 2014. He was born on May 4, 1935 in Hoxie, Arkansas to parents Burley Shackelford and Marie Whittaker Bradshaw. He married Jeanette McQuay on August 30, 1959 in Rockford. He was very proud to be a U.S. Army veteran with service in Korea. Darrell retired from Chrysler after 30 years of employment. He was a long time member of Lincoln Wood Baptist Church. Darrell loved spending time with his family, caring for his vegetable and flower gardens, collecting vinyl records, playing Spades, and having garage sales. Heaven's gardens will be a little brighter now that he is there.

Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Jeanette; children, Jequetta (Greg) Surufka, Renee (Dave) Johnson, Nathan (Shayne) Shackelford; grandchildren, Sara (Nate) Whitney, Doug Surufka, Eric (Jesse) Johnson, Hunter Shackelford, Haley Shackelford, Adam Surufka, Tristen Shackelford, Kane Shackelford, Zane Hummel and Donavan Castillo. He is also survived by his sister Louise Davis, brother, Billy Joe (Clara) Shackelford and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces (each of whom were his favorite) and nephews.

Darrell is predeceased by his parents; his son, Kevin (Pauline) Shackelford; his brothers, Gene(Betty) Shackelford, Bobby Shackelford and Johnny (Peggy) Shackelford; in-laws, Lawrence and Audrey McQuay, brother-in-law, Lester Manning and sisters-in-law, Juanita McFadden and Lola Finley.

The family would like to thank everyone at Heartland Hospice, Joy and everyone at Senior Helpers and Shirley Davis for the wonderful and loving care they provided to Darrell during this past year. May God bless you all!
