Glendoris M. Crosby of Rockford passed away at 8:50pm Monday April 12, 2010 in St Anne Center. She was born July 28, 1919 on a farm in Rush Township, Jo Davies County, IL. The daughter of Glen and Anna (Kupersmith) Metcalf. She attended a one room grade school. Graduate of Warren High School in 1936, Active in sports, drama, band, speech and cheerleading. She was also active in both animal and clothing 4H clubs. She graduated from Rockford Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in 1939 where she worked on researching the hospital history with the Auxillary and worked on the building fund drive of 1940. She married the love of her life, Bennie Crosby in Dubuque, IA on March 29, 1941. They spent 56 years together until Ben died in 1997. Active member of the School of Nursing Alumni Association. Including four years as chairman. Member of Hospital Auxillary, working many years at the Big Top sale from the time it started in a tent in the parking lot at the downtown hospital, until its last sale. She was very active in her childrens schools and Cub Scouts. She helped organize the first polio vaccination clinic at West High School. Ben and she spent many fishing trips in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. They also traveled to all the states including Alaska and Hawaii. Member of 3 rd Presbyterian Church since 1948 wher she was active in the Woman Association, Darcas Circle, trustee and sang in the choir.Survivors include her Son James Crosby. Grandchilren; Carrie (David Barbour) Crosby, Lindsay and Stephanie Crosby, Glendelle Crosby, Robert James Crosby. Great Grandchildren Dajsha, Alisa and Nadia Barbour , Alexis and Allee Crosby. Sisters Cleo Granning and Jane (Dick) Seeberg. Nephew David (Karen) Granning. Daughter-in-law Ruth Crosby . Predeceased by her parents, husband, sons; Robert(Gayle) and William Crosby , grandson Gary Crosby and nephew Thomas GranningMemorial service for Glendoris will be held on Saturday April 17, 2010 at 11am in 3 rd Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Murray Hanson pastor of 3 rd Presbyterian Church officiating. Private family Burial. Visitation will be held on Friday April 16, 2010 from 5pm until 7pm in Fitzgerald Funeral Home 3910 N. Rockton Ave. In lieu of flowers memorials to 3 rd Presbyterian Church or Rockford Memorial Hospital Auxillary.
