Giancarlo Van Etten, 19, Rockford, passed away October 28, 2015. Born in Rockford on March 28, 1996. Son of Flo Ziemer and Mark Van Etten who predeceased him. Giancarlo attended Rockford Christian and studied at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake. He was employed by Sam’s Pizza on Harlem. Giancarlo was a gifted drummer, he loved learning, had a heart for others, and he enjoyed his Italian heritage and culture.
Survivors include his Mother, Flo (Norb) Ziemer of Rockford, brother Gerry Van Etten and sister Elena Ziemer; Maternal grandparents Michele “Mike” and Maria Galluzzo of Rockford, Paternal Grandmother Carol Van Etten of Rockford; Maternal uncles Gino (Mary) Galluzzo, Joe (Amy Salvi) Galluzzo and Sal (Brigit) Galluzzo all of Belvidere; Paternal aunts Chris (Bernie) Cotter of Homewood and Cathy Hofsteadter of Indiana; Norb’s family; grandparents, Norb and Liz Ziemer of Woodstock, IL ; aunts; Kristal (John) Bertram of Woodstock, Karolyn (Brian) Kearney of Crystal Lake, and Kamie (Mike) Oltz of Harvard; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his father Mark Van Etten; infant brother Joshua Ziemer and grandfather, Gerry Van Etten.
Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at First Free Rockford, 2223 N. Mulford Rd. Entombment at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2015 at First Free Rockford and again on Tuesday, November 3, from 10 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
