Gerald A. Zanocco, 94, of Rockford died peacefully on Monday October 20, 2014. He was born on March 8, 1920 in Rockford to John and Madeline (Sola) Zanocco. Gerald graduated from St. Thomas High School in 1937 and served in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater. He married Violet Naretta on October 2, 1946. Gerald co-owned Zanocco Brothers Grocers for nearly 30 years, and in 1974 he co-founded Zanocco Ace Hardware. Gerald is survived by his wife Violet; sons Rick (Linda) and Dean (Diane); grandchildren Jennifer (Hector), Stephanie (Andrew), Courtney (Stefan), Kyle (Natalie), and Chad; and great-grandchildren Gabriela, Lucas, Eliana, Claudia, and Ava. He is also predeceased by his brothers Anthony (Angeline), Charles (Bernice), and Angelo (Adeline), and his sister Geraldine (Joe) Salbego. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church. 4401 Highcrest Rd., on Friday, October 24, 2014 at 11 a.m. Visitation will be at church from 9:30 a.m. until time of prayer at 10:45 a.m. Private entombment will be held later that afternoon at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to Siena on Brendenwood or Poor Clares Monastery.
