George Hamp, 89, of Rockford, died at his residence surrounded by his family after a long illness Sunday, August 28, 2011. He was born August 22, 1922 in rural Whiteside County Illinois.He was the son of William and Florence Hamp.He was educated in a oneroom school in Stephenson County. He graduated from Belvidere High School.He married Mary Louise Nuckles on July 17, 1943.He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II in the C.B.I Theater.During the Korean Conflict, my reserve unit was called to Active Duty.He retired from Outboard Marine Corp in 1986 as Advertising and Public Relations manager.Two sisters have preceded me in death.I am survived by my loving wife Mary and two sons, Mark and Matt and their families, both of Rockford, IL.I have 3 great grandchildren and 12 grandchildren.I have been a Cubs fan all of my life and never wavered.In my lifetime they never won a World Series, but, I will be watching.Visitation will be 1012 noon Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1829 N. Rockton Ave, Rockford, IL.Burial will be in Charter Oak Cemetery.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Fitzgerald Funeral Home Riverside Chapel.On line tributes may be made at www.fitzgeraldfuneralhome.com.
