George Joseph Frisella Sr.

Heaven gained a feisty angel today. George Joseph Frisella Sr., 95, Rockford, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at SwedishAmerican Hospital. George was born March 15, 1922, in Chicago, the son of Benny and Margaret Frisella. He was a veteran of the Army obtaining the rank of E8 Tech Sergeant. He trained platoons in all of the tanks used in maneuvers during WWII. George married Antionette Mandell and she passed away January 22, 1954. He then married Barbara Sherrill. George was an entrepreneur from a very young age. He started a trucking company and owned a bar before he began working for Weiman Furniture Company in North Carolina for many years retiring as Vice President of the company. He then worked at Barber Colman and at Ello Furniture until he was 80 years old. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he was active in the Senior Holy Name Society. George finished the 8th grade and immediately began working to help support his family. He took care of everyone and never asked for recognition or praise. George’s favorite pastime was baseball. The Cardinals, White sox, and then Cubs was the pecking order.
Survived by his former wife, Barbara Sink of Florida; his daughters, Georgann (Bradley) Gummow of Rockford and Carol Parrott of Florida; his son, George Frisella Jr. of Rockford his grandchildren, Gina (Tim) George, Erica Parrott, and James Parrott; his great granddaughter, Vivian May George; his sister, Carmella (John) Schmidt of Rockford; many nieces, nephews and close friends and his special caregiver, Jody. Predeceased by his brothers, Joe, Phil, and Andrew Frisella, his sisters, Mary and Pauline, and an infant brother, Carl.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 16, 2018, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. Rockford. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 15, 2018, at the funeral home and again from 10:00 A.M. until time of service on Tuesday.
