Genevieve J. Gerretson

Genevieve “Gen” J. Gerretson, 99, of Rockford, IL passed away on October 29, 2021. She was born in Friendship, WI to Clarence and Ina (Jones) Bennett on December 19, 1921. Gen received her master’s degree in Education and taught for many years at Lincoln Middle School in Rockford, IL. She was united in marriage to her husband Joe in 1948. Gen was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for a lot of years. Gen loved music, reading, and history. She was a very classy woman and enjoyed dressing up and looking nice. Gen loved dancing with her husband, they were members of the Top of The Town Dance Club and Cotillion Dance Group. They were also members of the Beloit Country Club, Bel-Mar Country Club, and Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club. Gen and Joe enjoyed traveling and visiting many places like Europe, Australia, Hawaii, and Alaska. They were both avid University of Wisconsin fans and never missed a sporting event. Gen had a lot of friends and she left footprints on many people’s hearts with her faith, love of music, and her beautiful smile.

Genevieve is survived and missed by many loving friends. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Merlin “Joe” Gerretson.

Services for Gen will be private. Cremation rights have been accorded. Arrangements entrusted to Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel. 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Genevieve’s name to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 Bell School Road, Rockford, IL 61107.
