Gary J. Campbell

Gary J. Campbell, 74, of Rockford, passed away at home on Sunday, May 15, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.

Gary was born in Rockford on November 11, 1947, son of Robert C. and Helen A. (Snell) Campbell. He graduated from East High School, Class of 1965. Gary proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy. He served from 1967 – 1975, earning several medals including the Vietnam service medal with a bronze star. After his service, Gary was employed with Sundstrand Corporation, retiring in 2012. He married Kimberly D. Petersen on December 15, 1984. Gary was a longtime member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church where he was involved in singing in the choir, helping teach Sunday school, youth group ministries and was also a Cub Scout Leader.

Those left to honor Gary’s memory include his wife, Kim Campbell; children, Beth (Lucas) Keaton, Brandon (Tasha) Campbell, Andy (Kelly) Campbell and Stacie (Roger) Durbin; grandchildren, Elsie and Ethan Keaton, Desmond Campbell and Gabriel Campbell; siblings, Nancy Campbell and Steve (Kathy) Campbell; brothers and sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents; his sisters, Donna (Jim) Carner, Debbie Kestel and his parents-in-law.

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of Northern Illinois Hospice and caregiver, Hailey for their loving kindness, care and compassion during their time with Gary.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 20, 2022, with visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of service located at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 3300 Rural St. Rockford, IL 61107.

Memorials may be made in Gary’s name to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
