Gary C. Reffett, 71, of Rockton passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Mercy Health. He was born in Danville, IL on October 12, 1945, the son of Joseph and Beverly (Rohour) Reffett. In 1964 at the Old Stone Church in Rockton, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Larson. Gary served as a police officer for the Beloit Police Department before continuing his career with the Rockford Police Department for nearly 27 years. He also served as the fire chief for Rockton Fire Department, worked for the Rockford Park District, and U.S. Marshalls, totaling 40 years of public service. He was a member of various police, firearm, and investigator clubs and organizations, enjoying hunting and recreational shooting. Above all else, Gary was committed to his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his children, Guy Reffett, Robert (Jan) Reffett, and Michele (Lenny) Hemmer; his grandchildren, Bekka Reffett, Megan Hemmer, Joseph Reffett, and Logan Hemmer; his sister, Mary Francis; and many friends. Predeceased by his parents, step father, William Reid Jr.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel. A visitation will be held from 1:00 until time of service. Inurnment private.
