Gail P. Francik, 80, Rockford, died on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 being lovingly cared for by her family and the staff at Anam Glen Memory Care. Born February 12, 1943 in Oak Park, daughter of Karl F. and Myrtle Perfect Dittberner. Graduated from Proviso West High School in Hillside and Rush Presbyterian St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago. She worked as a Registered Nurse in a nursing home in the Chicago area and the LaGrange Community Hospital. Married Alvin L. Francik at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in LaGrange Park on June 23, 1961. Member of Christ Lutheran Church. Gail was actively involved with Children’s Home and Aid Society. She served as a board member and president of the Rockford Chapter of Volunteers. She was a long time volunteer of the Rockford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary devoting much time to the Thrift Shop. Gail’s family was the most important thing in her world. She always enjoyed her times traveling with them with all of their activities and being an integral part of their lives. She was an outstanding cook and her kind heart always led her to nurturing those around her.
Survivors include her husband Alvin L. Francik, MD; children, Krista D. (Anthony) Meyer, Loves Park, David L. (Sheryl) Francik, Brownsburg, IN and Kelly F. (Dean) Mikels, Fishers, IN; grandchildren, Drake (Stephanie) Bronk, Michael Francik, Kaitlyn (Milos) Ioannis, Carter Mikels, Ryan Mikels; step-grandchildren, Courtney Sackett and Katie (Gabe) Schauf; great-grandchildren, Paris Bronk, Kase Bronk and Sophia Milos; step-great grandchildren, Greta Schauf and Gracie Schauf; sister-in-law, Kathleen Kovack and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, sisters, Dawn (Leroy) Bonesz, Faith (Frank) Rice and brother-in-law, Tom Kovack.
A memorial service to honor Gail will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 24, 2023 in Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Carol Baumgartner officiating. Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the church. Private family burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Children’s Home and Aid Society or Christ Lutheran Church.
