Frank R. Garland

Frank R. Garland, Jr. 88, Rockford, died Monday, January 18, 2010, in SwedishAmerican Hospital. He was born October 27, 1921, in St. Louis, MO., the son of Frank R. and Gladys (Alexander) Garland, Sr. Frank married Patricia M. Pat Gallagher in Webster Groves, MO on April 19, 1947. Frank was a Naval Aviator in WWII. He served across hte pacific flying modified B-24s on scouting and bombing missions out of Guadalcanal, THe Admiralty Islands, Tinian and Iwo Jima and earned the rank of Lieutenant. He owned and operated Garland Distributing Co. from 1946 until his retirement in 1986. Frank is a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was an avid Bears and White Sox fan.



Survived by his wife, Pat; children, Kathy (Mike) Lindsay, Rockford, Margaret Story, Rockford, Alex Garland, Treasure Island, FL, John Garland, Treasure Island, FL. Frank R. (Dianne) Garland, III, Montclair, NJ, Dan (Julie) Garland, Webster Groves, MO, and Nancy Garland, Rockford; grandchildren, Brian (Julie) Lindsay, Patrick and Daniel Lindsay, Erin (Matthew) Chase, Megan (Shawn) Willemse, Michael (Lisa) Story, Ryan Story, Wendy (Bill) Lewis, Todd (Martha) Story, Ian, Alexis, Erica, Keegan, Katie, Christine, Isabelle, Maggie, Shane, Jamie, and Sydney Garland; great-grandchildren, Jacob, Kathleen, Sarah, and Matthew Lewis, Brecken Story, Catherine and Norah Chase, Makenna, Kaelyn, Hunter, and Reagan Lindsay.

Predeceased by his parents, son-in-law, Michael Story, and brother, Alex.

Funeral Mass will be 11 am, Friday, January 22, 2010, in St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. 2 nd St., Rockford, IL 61107, with Fr. Dean E. Russell officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation from 5pm until 7pm.,Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd.
