Frances C. Pumilia

Frances C. Pumilia, 95, Rockford, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 1, 1921 in LaSalle, IL , the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Minecci) Mauro. She graduated from LaSalle High School in 1938. On July 11, 1942 she married Nicholas C. Pumilia at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in LaSalle. He predeceased her in 1980. Together they raised 3 children and made a lifelong home for themselves in Rockford. Coincidentally 2 of Frances’ sisters married 2 of Nicholas’ brothers which brought Frances great joy and made for some lively family get togethers.
Frances was a homemaker and mother, filled with love for her family and her faith. She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church where she belonged to the Young Seniors group. Frances also enjoyed her trips to the casinos with her family and friends.
Frances is survived by her children, Barb Giacone, Nick Pumilia and Dan (Marie) Pumilia; grandchildren, Cindy (Tim) Hamilton, Alicia (Ben) Curnock, Cristy (John Dempsey) Giacone, Jenna (fiancé Ruaidhri Gaston) Pumilia, Nicolette Pumilia, Brieanna Pumilia and Nicholas Pumilia; great grandchildren, Isla and Esmae Curnock; and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Nicholas, son-in-law, Joe Giacone: brother, Carlo Mauro; sisters, Adeline Kudla, Catherine Witkowski, Rose Pumilia, Pat Pumilia, and infant sister Francie Mauro.
The family would like to thank Dr. Edison Lim and his staff for their loving care, the entire staff of OSF that cared for Frances over the years and especially Jamie from OSF Hospice.
Funeral Mass 10:00 am Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St. Rockford. Visitation Monday, November 14, 2016 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm with a Rosary at 6:30 pm, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel. Visitation again Tuesday morning from 9:00 – 9:45 at the church. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial may be made to the family.
