Frances Black-Roethle

Frances C. Black Roethle, 85 of Rockford, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Alden Park Strathmoor Care Center with her husband by her side. Born January 16, 1928 in Rockford, the daughter of Frances M. Palmeri and Fred Gebbia. She is a lifelong Rockford resident graduating from West High School in 1946. She worked at National Lock after high school and later at Kmart. She married James H. Black in September of 1949. Together they had three children-Debera, Jim & Michael. James died in September of 1957. She later married Jerome Roethle in August 1965. They had two sons -Daniel and Theodore. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and walks at Rock Cut State Park. She was most proud of her 5 children and loved spending time with them and their families. Frances was a kind and caring person with much love to give and will be missed dearly by all. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Park Strathmoor, and especially E-Wing nurses Brad and Joseph for all of the wonderful and compassionate care they gave to Frances. Survivors include her husband, Jerome Roethle of Rockford; children, Debera(Mark) Hayes of Lacrosse, WI, Jim (Trish) Black of Byron, Michael Black of Rockford, Daniel (Pintaria) Roethle of Rockford and Theodore (Dawn) Roethle of Roscoe; 8 grandsons and 3 granddaughters; brother, Stephen L. (Doris) Gebbia of Lebanon, Ind. and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, James H. Black in 1957. Memorial Mass Monday, May 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church. Visitation will be Sunday, May 5 from 5-7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Inurnment will be held in Calvary Catholic Cemetery following the Mass. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: St. Edward's Catholic Church.
