Fran Lowman

August 3, 1936 — September 11, 2008

Fran Lowman, 72, of Rockford, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008, in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 3, 1936 in Baltimore, MD; the daughter of Joseph Singewald and Laura Heroy Guyton. Fran moved to Rockford in 1954. She joined Unitarian Universalist Church in 1957, was a founding member of the local chapter of Rock River Valley Wild Ones, and she volunteered at the North Suburban Library in Roscoe. Fran was part of the Severson Dells Environmental Center which supported three generations of her family. Nature was Frans spirituality, which was seen as she nourished native habitats in our area and cared for this environment. Survivors include her children, Susan (Michael) Bounds of Pensacola, FL, Kim (John) Vollmer of South Beloit and Steve (Janet) Lowman of Sheridan, WY; grandchildren, Jennifer (Kenneth) Kessler, Timothy Lowman and Carly Vollmer; great-grandchild, Kenneth Kessler, Jr; sister, Page Williams of Houston, TX and her dog, Lupine. Predeceased by her parents. A memorial service to celebrate Frans life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 4848 Turner Street, Rockford, IL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Severson Dells Environmental Education Center or to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Rockford for their playground.
