Floyd Spencer Jr., 84, a loving husband, father, brother and uncle, passed peacefully into the next world on July 21, 2009. He was born December 21, 1924 in Knoxville, Illinois to Floyd Joseph Spencer and Hazel Myers Spencer. Floyd graduated from Knoxville High School in 1942. He served honorably in the US Army from 1943 to 1945 in the 706 Engineering Corps with the majority of his time spent in Burma and India. He married Betty Loraine Spencer on October 24, 1947 in Knoxville, Illinois. A resident of Rockford for 52 years, Floyd worked for 36 years for Rockford Products, retiring in 1987 and remained in close contact with his friends and colleagues throughout his retirement. Floyd shared an interest in Genealogy with Betty and was a member of the Spencer and Duval Family Associations as well as the Knox and Winnebago Genealogical Societies. Floyd was an avid golfer who frequently could be found playing a quick 9 holes at Sandy Hollow Golf Course. Floyd is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty, his son David (Betsy) of Culpeper, VA and his daughter Carol (Mike) Rogers of Brimfield, IL. Loving Grandfather to Benjamin and Jack Spencer and Thomas, Theresa, Todd and Tori Rogers who will miss him greatly. Loving Uncle to Donnie (Joanie), Brian (Becky) and Sue Anderson, Thomas (Cathy) Thurman and Darla (Kevin) Kuhner. He will also be missed by numerous great nieces and great nephews. Predeceased by his father Floyd, mother Hazel, sister Velma Anderson and niece Pat Murphy. Funeral Service will be Monday, July 27, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gary F. Rothwell officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. until time of service Monday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108.
