Floyd R. Kisner

Floyd Raymond Kisner, age 87, was peacefully called home on September 26, 2017, in Rockford, Illinois.
Floyd is survived by his wife, Marchetta, of 53 years; his sons, Todd Michael, of Rockford and Bradley Lee (Arnie Klein), of Cleveland, Ohio, siblings, Regina Bergman, Lawrence “Bud” (Lee) Kisner, Dorothy (Richard) Lehmkuhl, and Beverly Dvorak. He is preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Mabel Kisner and his siblings Shirley Egger, John Kisner and Dale Kisner.
Floyd was born on March 21,1930 in Oelwein, Iowa to parents Peter Frank Kisner and Mabel Lucille Hensch. He was one of eight children.
Floyd honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1951 thru 1954 as a Sergeant First Class during the Korean War. In 2015, Floyd was honored to take part in The Harlem Vet Documentary Project as a tribute to his military service.
He graduated from The Milwaukee School of Engineering and moved to Rockford in April, 1957 where he accepted a position as a Senior Electromechanical Technician with Barber-Colman, where he worked for 63 years in the heating and cooling industry. Floyd ended his career as a Senior Sales Engineer with Alpha Controls alongside a group of professionals he loved deeply. He was a proud member of ASHRAE, he enjoyed sharing his knowledge as a Test and Balance (TAB) Certification Trainer for State of Illinois and a trainer for HVAC courses for UA Local 23 Plumbers & Pipe Fitters. Some of Floyd’s notable projects were the Houston Astrodome, The Metropolitan Opera and The Coronado Theatre Restoration Project in Rockford.
Floyd was a social, active man who was enthusiastically involved in Rockford Toastmasters Club #1752 for the majority of his life. He was a true blue Green Bay Packer fan from the start of his college days and enjoyed many trips to Lambeau Field to cheer on the team he loved so much. Alongside his son Todd, he enjoyed IceHogs and Blackhawks Hockey, was an IceHogs Booster Club member where he cherished his role as the “official advisor” to the president of the club. Floyd loved attending the theatre especially when his son Brad was performing or directing. In his “retirement” years he enjoyed visiting numerous casinos where he loved to play the slots alongside Marchetta, and dear friends, Bill/Pat Wierman and Jim/Donna Farone. Floyd was a sauerkraut connoisseur who enjoyed sharing his blue ribbon winning recipe with family and friends.
He was a member of St. Rita Catholic Church, where he was on the building committees for their new church in 1981 and Wahl Hall in 2011. His family and friends will always remember him as an amazingly positive, polka loving (loved the dance floor), upbeat person who touched everyone he ever met, with his caring one of a kind personality.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 6, 2017; at St. Rita Catholic Church, 6254 Valley Knoll Dr., Rockford, IL, 61109. Visitations will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017; at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL, 61108; and will continue on Friday at Church from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. A prayer service will be held at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday at the Funeral Home.
