Floyd A. Simonson Iii

Floyd A. Simonson III, 71, of Cherry Valley, passed away on September 25, 2023. He was born on August 9, 1952, in Rockford, the son of Floyd and Sarah (Henry) Simonson Jr. He graduated from East High School in 1970 and attended Rock Valley College. He married Suzanne (Sue) Arendt on June 28, 1980, at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Floyd worked at Eagle Foods for most of his career, working his way up from night stocking crew to retiring as assistant manager after 38 years. As an avid outdoors man and former boy scout, Floyd especially enjoyed fishing with his brother, Clayton, and teaching his grandson, Neev, how to fish. He also enjoyed hunting and the art of archery. He enjoyed cheering on the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs, and playing softball and bowling in his younger days.

Floyd was gregarious and generous, always found a way to connect with people and put a smile on their face. He always ensured that everyone around him was having a good time – and he had a good time with you! - and wanted his loved ones to live their lives to the fullest.

Floyd was a gentle, caring husband, father, and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his wife of 43 years, Sue; daughter, Valerie (Ankit) Shah; grandchildren, Nyla and Neev; brother, Clayton (Faith) Simonson; brother-in-law, Bill (Sheri) Arendt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents and sister, Belvia Milligan.

A public visitation will be held on Friday, September 29, 2023, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue Rockford, IL 61103. A service will follow the visitation starting at 4:00 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate to your charity of choice.
