Rockford- Evelyn Lois Johnson, 78, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. Born August 3, 1937 in Rockford, the daughter of Lewis & Eva (Huene) Doty. Graduated from West High School, class of 1955, she also attended Rockford Business College. Later she married Walter R. Johnson at St. Patrick’s Church in Rockford, on July 19, 1958. Walter predeceased her on June 2, 2002. She worked for Kelly Williamson Oil Company for more than 30 years retiring in 2003. She was an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she was in charge of the St. Patrick’s Day Corn Beef & Cabbage Dinner and also the booth for On the Water Front. She enjoyed playing bingo, reading and spending time with family and friends. She was willing to help someone in need and she never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed by many.
Survivors include daughters Laurie (Mark Stram) Bergeson, Paula Turner and Leslie Blanchard; grandchildren Paulette Ashcraft, Jeremy Bergeson and Alicia Horner; 9 great grandchildren; siblings Sandra (Dennis) DeVlieger, Peggy (Bob) Mack, Joseph (Barb) Doty, Michael (Doris) Doty, Elaine Shultz, William (Debra) Doty and Linda (Wally) Beckman. Predeceased by parents, husband, son- in- laws Joe Turner and Lyle Blanchard; brother- in- law Ed Shultz; and one great-grandson Brandon Garcia.
Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Visitation Friday from 5 -7 pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave., Rockford, IL 61103 and from 12:15 to 12:45 pm Saturday at the church. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family.
